LUMEN — PRIVACY

Last updated: 23 August 2026
The short version: LUMEN runs on your device and needs no account to play. Nothing leaves your device unless you choose it. Four things can, each optional and each off or absent until you act: anonymous gameplay statistics; a leaderboard score, which needs an account — and only that; a rewarded video, only in the mobile app and only when you tap to watch one, which lets Google see your device’s IP and advertising identifier; and — only if you turn voice control on — microphone audio, which your browser sends to its own speech service. There are no banners, no interstitials, and no ad that plays on its own. Each of these has its own section below.

What is stored, and where

Your progress is saved in your own browser's local storage. It never leaves your device unless you choose to use a feature below. It includes:

Clearing your browser data — or using Settings → Reset progress — erases all of it permanently. We cannot recover it, because we never had it.

Optional: anonymous gameplay stats

Off by default. If you turn on Share anonymous stats, the game may send gameplay events (for example: a run ended, a score, whether the tutorial was completed) to help balance difficulty. These carry a random per-session id that is discarded when you close the game.

They contain no name, email, account, device identifier, advertising id, IP-based profile, or location. You can switch it off at any time in Settings, and doing so also deletes anything still queued on your device.

Optional: online leaderboard

Nothing goes to the board until you ask for it. Signing in creates an account; it does not publish anything. The moment that does is when you choose a display name and press SAVE — the screen says plainly what is about to be uploaded and who can see it, and pressing the button is your consent. Until then no score of yours has left the device, however many runs you have played.

What is sent is the display name you type, your score, and your combo, and nothing else. Choose a nickname, not your real name — the board is public. Your IP address is visible to the server as it is for any web request, and is used only for rate limiting.

You can take it back at any time: Settings → ACCOUNT → DELETE ACCOUNT removes your entry and your account together, immediately and permanently.

Optional: voice control

Voice control is off until you switch it on in Settings. While it is on, LUMEN asks your browser for microphone access and keeps that microphone open for as long as the setting stays on, so it can hear commands such as “shield” or “magnet” during a run.

Speech recognition is provided by your browser or operating system, not by us. On most browsers — including Chrome and Edge — and in the Android app, which uses the phone’s own recogniser, that means the captured audio is sent to the vendor’s speech service to be transcribed. We never receive that audio, never store it, and never receive the transcript; the game only sees which command word was recognised. What the vendor does with it is governed by their privacy policy, not ours.

Switching the setting off releases the microphone immediately. If you would rather it were never opened at all, leave the setting off — every action it offers has a button and a keyboard shortcut.

Advertising

The mobile app includes the Google Mobile Ads SDK and offers rewarded video only. There are no banners and no interstitials: no ad ever interrupts a run or appears on a screen you did not open. Every ad is one you chose — you tap “watch for shards” in the shop, or accept the offer to continue a run that has already ended. Declining costs you nothing but the reward, and nothing in the game is gated behind watching one.

To serve a video, Google receives your device’s IP address and an advertising identifier. What Google does with it is covered by their own policy: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. LUMEN does not send Google your scores, your name, or anything else about how you play.

The browser and desktop versions contain no advertising SDK at all.

Accounts and the shared leaderboard

Playing LUMEN needs no account. Signing in is required for one thing only: posting a score to the shared leaderboard, which needs a stable identity so your entry can be updated rather than duplicated. Your own scores, your shards and everything you have unlocked live on your device and work signed out.

The app signs you in with Apple on iOS and with Google on Android. Either way what reaches us is an opaque user identifier — not your name, and not your email address. Alongside it we store the display name you type and the scores you choose to submit. Changing your name rewrites the existing row; it never creates a second one, and Settings → Delete account removes it along with the account itself.

Children

LUMEN is suitable for all ages. Signed out — which is how the game runs unless you deliberately sign in — it collects no personal data at all. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and the only field a signed-in player can enter is a display name, which does not have to be a real one.

Your rights

Since data stays on your device, you are always in control: view it in your browser's developer tools, and delete it with Reset progress or by clearing site data. If you made an account, you can delete it yourself: Settings → ACCOUNT → DELETE ACCOUNT removes your leaderboard entry and your account, for good, without asking anyone. Everything you unlocked stays on your device and the game keeps working signed out. For anything else, contact the address below.

Deleting your account does not need this address — Settings → ACCOUNT → DELETE ACCOUNT does it directly. Write here for anything else, including a deletion request you would rather make in words.
